San Gimignano is known as the City of Towers. At one time there were more than 70 of these status symbols, today 14 are still standing. Again, highly dependent on tourism, the church required a $10 entry fee with no phoyography allowed. We awarded it one Bronx Cheer

There is a well in the main square giving rise to the romantic name Cistern Square

Following along this theme, the hotel in the square is cleverly named Cistern Hotel. Is there no end to this continental creativity?

One corner of the square was graced by an underused restaurant

Typical colorful pottery available in many stores. While trying to photograph one such store, Marian was chased off by an irate woman, brandishing a broom and shrieking "You buy!" Interesting sales approach
